Sorbitol is popularly used in soap and cosmetics as an humectant and for its ability to prevent moisture loss.

When added to lotions and washes, it can increase thickness.

Liquid Sorbitol also helps improve transparency.

LIHM Sorbitol is natural and a mixture 70% Sorbitol and 30% water.

It is similar to glycerin, as it is a humectant, thickening agent, and slip agent.

Sorbitol has a lighter feel than glycerin and is used in cosmetic formulations such as creams, lotions, shower gels, and hair gels at typical use levels of 1-10%.

In higher concentrations, it suppresses the growth and replication of microbes, acting as a preservative and preventing drying out and spoilage. Sorbitol is a safe, environment-friendly (rapidly biodegradable) ingredient from renewable raw materials with several benefits for the skin.

Cleansing Face Cream

An effective rinse off  Cleansing Face Cream made with the emulsifiers, Castor & Jojoba Oils for deep cleansing & Coca betaine to help the cream rinse off nicely.

Stage 1 (above 75°C)
8% Castor Oil
8% Jojoba Oil
3% SCI
2% Cetearyl Alcohol
1% Cocoa Butter
Stage 2 (above 75°C)
55% Distilled Water
5% Glycerol stearate
5% Sorbitol

Stage 3 (below 40°C)

10% Cocamidopropyl Betaine
1% Preservative
1% Vitamin E
0.5% Lactic Acid
0.5% Essential Oils of your choice
100% Total

Method:

  • Weigh all Stage 1 ingredients into a small stainless steel bowl and place into a saucepan of boiling water (double boiler/bain marie). Bring up to a temperature over 75°C.
  • When the Stage 1 is over 75°C, weigh and add the Stage 2 ingredients together in a separate larger stainless steel bowl. Swap the bowls over so that the larger bowl is in the double boiler.
  • Pour the Stage 1 ingredients into the larger bowl (Stage 2) and stir gently without creating air bubbles.
  • Make sure the temperature is over 75°C and continue to stir for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, remove the bowl from the double boiler and put it into a pan of cold water to cool down quickly. Keep stirring all the time.
  • When the cream is under 40°C, add the remaining Stage 3 ingredients. Combine thoroughly, jar and label.
